A HERS inspection will expose how poorly or how well your home scores on an energy efficiency index scale. Measuring your home’s energy efficiency will save your home buyers money by locating the areas in their homes that could lead to unnecessary energy uses and costs.
Your home’s score can be affected by the following: windows, appliances, HVAC, insulation installed, envelope leakage, and even the paint color. For example, windows have their own rating and insulation value based on how much light they reflect, thus possibly affecting how cool or warm your home becomes if too much or little amount of light is let in.

According to the efficiency index, a good score is between 50 and 60. Depending on the score, it will be represented as a percentage. For example, if your home scores 53, it uses 53% of the energy that a standard home does. An older home will be less energy efficient due to older features and may score well above 100.
