What is a HERS Inspection?

Written by Legacy Engineering | Sep 22, 2023 1:27:11 PM

Legacy Engineering offers Home Energy Rating System (HERS) inspections for your upcoming home building needs. A HERS inspection will expose how poorly or how well your home scores on an energy efficiency index scale. Measuring your home’s energy efficiency will save your home buyers money by locating the areas in their homes that could lead to unnecessary energy uses and costs.

Your home’s score can be affected by the following: windows, appliances, HVAC, insulation installed, envelope leakage, and even the paint color. For example, windows have their own rating and insulation value based on how much light they reflect, thus possibly affecting how cool or warm your home becomes if too much or little amount of light is let in.

Creating an environmentally friendly home can save money and increase comfortability in homes year-round, especially in the Florida summer months.

According to the efficiency index, a good score is between 50 and 60. Depending on the score, it will be represented as a percentage. For example, if your home scores 53, it uses 53% of the energy that a standard home does. An older home will be less energy efficient due to older features and may score well above 100.

HERS inspections are a simple guarantee that your home is as environmentally friendly as you desire and ensure your money is not being spent on excess energy use.

Pricing for a HERS inspection is variable based on the size of the home and the home customization already in place. If you would like a pricing estimate, please contact our Energy Rating Manager, Devin Bremer. He can be reached directly by phone at (904)-322-0048 or by email at dbremer@legacyengineering.com

Legacy will be your trusted partner for home energy ratings and we guarantee accurate results and consistent communication.

Although testing is not required when building homes, it is highly encouraged to implement energy-saving measures that result in reduced operational costs for homeowners.
